Beezy - Thoughts In Retrospect

beezyMC Beezy launches the second outing for Tempa's grimy brother label and the vinyl arm of the legendary London Pirate, Rinse. Backed by superb productions from Benga and Distance, Beezy eschews the typical staccato grime MC flow in favour of a heavily accented narrative style, kinda (inevitably) like Mike Skinner ov the Streets, but cutting a far more authentic character and also benefitting from killer riddims courtesy of the dubstep scenes finest. Benga's beat for the ace ' Thoughts in retrospect' is a rootsy horn led lovers reggae style cut quite unlike owt we've heard from him, in fact the only trace of a Benga production we can discern would be the staggered snares, apart from that you'd be mistaken for thinking this was completely different producer, so props to Benga! However, Distance really steals the show with his awesome riddim on 'Snapshots of a glass portal', providing the perfect dark and melancholy backing for Beezy's tale of street horrors with a combination of slack and slow bassline pressure with a deathly shuffle of percussion and his trademark darkside synthline compositions really putting this head and shoulders above his large body of work. This is a very tidy pack indeed and should serve to set the Rinse label up very nicely with some big crossover potential. Get on this!
